sore bottom
on: March 3, 2012, 22:03

Hi,

I have been suffering with a sore bootom now for about a month and it is driving me crazy.

symptoms : sore around bottom and anus. Particularily sore when going to toilet. Sore when use toilet paper. stings when use wipe (plain wipe) with water to clean. stings like when apply cream. Tried Osteoguard barrier cream (used to use a small amount all the time when I was comfortable)but now it stings. Tried Metanium – stings. Tried Anusol Haemariod cream (seemed to help a bit). Tried Ilex – sealed me up. Tried Conotrane – stings. Tried Osteoguard Barrier film (helps but creats film so not sure if heals skin. I also Tried Aloe vera gel which was soothing but not sure if it was doing anything. Latest thing which is soothing Lamisil (terbinafine Hydrochloride)anti-fungal cream as not sure if there is a fungus causing problem. I have improved a bit from feeling as if acid was coming out when I went to the toilet to just stinging.

Generally: I am fit, I go to the loo 4 times a day (mainly at night). It is just that I have a sore bottom. It started when I overdid the excercise when skiing – I think I got hot in bottom area and this kicked it off. Food wise I have gone back to basic white diet, bread, potatoes, root vegetables and meat.

Has anyone any ideas.

Many thanks,

Ben

I have been live with my pouch since 7th July 2011. I had UC since 2003 and eventually decided to have a pouch as UC would not leave me in peace. I have been married for 21 years and have 4 daughters. I live in Cornwall. I enjoy skiing, snowboarding, paragliding and mountain biking which I hope to be doing again as soon.

Hi

I find any citrus does that to me so I gave up on orange/grapefruit/lemon juice or fruit, etc.

When going to the loo I wipe clean (getting some leakage recently) using Andrex Aloe Vera Skin Kind (seems to help) and apply Zinc oxide + castor oil ointment (Boots own brand, baby section) which is very soft and keeps the nasty stuff off my skin. Then after that, wipe clean and apply Sudocream or leave dry which seems to help more than applying a cream.

I hope you find your own solution as it is really unpleasant but not having fresh OJ for breakfast is a small price.

The cream I use is Coloplast Comfeel – give it a try if you are still suffering.

Hi again,

Thanks for the advice. I have spoken to other pouch friends and as a result I have come to the conclusion that it is best not to use any cream and toughen up the skin (creams soften your skin). I have had a Bidet installed in my bathroom at home and use it all the time (great gadget). I then use a hairdryer on cold switch to dry off. I am never sore! If I am away from home I use a shower when staying somewhere. If I need to go when out and about I use a plain wipe with water. This works for me but I am lucky as I work from home.
